Alberto de Castro Guedes was born in Montes Claros (MG), on August 13, 1951. Son of ‘baianos’ of Riacho de Santana, he is the youngest of eight children of Julia de Castro Guedes and Godofredo Guedes, musician and composer and the first musical influence on Beto Guedes. At the age of eight, Beto Guedes already played the tambourine – his first instrument – at a local band that his father had assembled with relatives and friends. At nine, he moved to Belo Horizonte. At that time, he met his friend and musical partner Lô Borges. At the peak of “Beatle mania”, in 1964, the friends Beto, Márcio Aquino, Lô and Yé Borges created The Beavers, cover band for the Beatles. Beto’s life started to change in 1969: his song “Equatorial” (co-written with Lô and Márcio Borges) won a fifth place at the 1st Student Song Festival in Belo Horizonte. In 1972, he moved to Rio de Janeiro with Lô and Milton Nascimento and participated in the recording of the album Clube da Esquina, in which he played the bass, the electric guitar, percussion and backvocals. After playing with the band 14 Bis and recording some features in Milton’s albums, in 1977, Beto released his first solo album “A Página do Relâmpago Elétrico” (The page of the electrical lightning), a big hit for audience and critics. Until 1986, he released other eight albums. In the 90’s, he released only two albums more and started to dedicate himself to mechanics and joinery, another talent inherited from his father Godofredo. In 2001, he released in DVD the big commemorative show of his 50th birthday that took place in Belo Horizonte, with Milton Nascimento, Jota Quest and Toni Garrido. After six years of hiatus, in 2004, Beto released “Em Algum Lugar” (Somewhere), his latest album with unedited songs.
